FAISALABAD:

A man was sentenced to death on three counts on Friday in a kidnapping and murder case registered against him in Factory Area police station in 2011.

Anti-terrorism court judge Ishtiaq Ahmad found Shaukat Ali, a resident of Ginash Mill, guilty of kidnapping and killing Nadeem alias Guddo, a neighbour, after witnesses completed recording their statements in the case on Friday.

Ali’s brother Nadeem Hussain, who has been nominated in the FIR but is still at large, was declared a proclaimed offender. Another man arrested in the case Shehzad, a resident of Sir Syed Town, was given benefit of doubt and acquitted of charges.

According to the prosecution, Shaukat Ali and his accomplices had killed Guddo after taking Rs500,000 ransom from his family. The boy had been kidnapped on August 22, 2011.

The prosecution said some of Guddo’s relatives had recognized Shaukat while handing over the ransom money. It said Shaukat then ran away and later killed Guddo.

The court also ordered forfeiture of Shaukat Ali’s property and directed him to pay Rs50,000 fine and Rs100,000 to the heirs of the deceased.
