Assistance: Japan pledges Rs8.2m for skill centre

Japan will provide financial support of $97,210 which comes to approximately Rs8.2 million to the Al-Shahbaz Tanzeem Khawateen for the construction of a women’s vocational training centre in Shigar tehsil, Gilgit-Baltistan, according to a press release issued by the Japanese embassy. The grant will be utilised for the centre’s construction and procurement of furniture and other required equipment for vocational training. The project aims to train women of the area by offering vocational courses including sewing, treatment, knitting, candle making and embroidery. It is expected that around 750 women will be trained annually at this centre, enabling them to improve their income level and social status in society with their newly-acquired skills.
