Learning time: Lahore College gets its own Iran centre

VC Sabiha Mansoor said the Persian Department setup in 1922 was one of the oldest at the university.

An Iran studies centre was inaugurated at the Lahore College for Women University on Wednesday. The Ottak-i-Iran Shanasi has been provided with computers, an LCD TV, a water dispenser, imported Iranian tiles, furniture and fixture by the Iranian government.

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Governor Latif Khan Khosa. He hoped the centre would encourage academic interaction between the LCWU and Iranian universities. Vice Chancellor Sabiha Mansoor said that the Persian Department setup in 1922 was one of the oldest at the university established at the time the university was founded in 1922.

“The department has produced scholars who have enhanced its stature and has kept up with other departments,” she said. She said a four-year BS degree in Persian was launched in 2008 and a two-year MS degree and a PhD programme would be started soon.
