ISLAMABAD:

With reference to a notice published in The Express Tribune on February 16, Gen (retd) Hamid Gul has offered an apology to the Express Media Group.

Gen Gul had earlier on a television show cast doubts on the authenticity of photos published in The Express Tribune of banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi leader Malik Ishaq attending the Difa-e-Pakistan Council rally in Multan. The former Inter-Services Intelligence chief had called the photos “doctored” by the group and the reporter in question. Gen Gul, a leader of the Difa-e-Pakistan Council, spoke to The Express Tribune recently in Rawalpindi on the sidelines of a press conference organised by the council.

He said that the stage in Multan was in fact very large and he had not noticed Ishaq’s presence. He said that he had mistakenly said that The Express Tribune’s picture was doctored, and later his colleagues confirmed Ishaq’s presence on stage along with other leadership.

He apologised for his remarks.

@mary: Gul did not fail to notice the genie of extremism, he intentionally let it come out of the bottle.

@Reasoner: Yes just as the chief ISI he had failed to notice that the genie of extremism they had been fostering in Afghanistan would one day engulf the whole of Pakistan. Loser.
