According to the briefing of the Pakistan Science Foundation, the 15-tonne-heavy fish has been moved to the museum where it will be preserved and kept as a national heritage.
Earlier, officials from the Karachi Fish Harbour Authority had claimed that the fish was actually government property and could not be put on display and had added that Haji Qasim, the man who had bought the whale shark for Rs200,000 would be compensated.
According to the director general of the Marine Fisheries Department (MFD), Shaukat Hussain, the whale shark was a 40.1-foot long female and weighed 15 tonnes. He said that this was the second largest fish to be found in Pakistan.
The director general added that a 41.5-foot long whale shark was found off Karachi’s coast in 1947.

One can hope that with the new-found attention the whale sharks have been receiving, there will be more International attention given to these magnificent creatures. Then, and only then, will they get the protection they need in order to stay off the endangered species list.
This being Pakistan, I dont think they have the capabilities to preserve such a big fish.
Do not be surprised if the museum starts smelling of rotting fish.
It is, in fact, called a Whale Shark - hence the headline.
Cautious, what does is matter to you what we put in our museums? Honestly, do you Indians NOT having anything else to do than obsess over Pakistanis?
First of all, all Karachi loyals, go on if u love ur city so much, take a step and clean your city, oh its a little big no? go ahead clean your street, oh no, its also a lil big, go on and clean the mess you made outside your house... oh for that matter you would have to leave this comfortable seat u sitting and typing hatred... dont be hypocritical, show your love to your city by doing something for it.. a dead fish in the museum will do no national good which doesnt even get maintained by the ppl you voted for.. oh you didn't even vote! love the city? HUH!! ANOTHER FACT btw! this whale shark was caught in a Balochistan, Pakistan Island, brought to Karachi by fisherman... From Karachi, PAKISTAN
Sorry, that says narrated for kids up there...
@Omar:
Why not call it a whale shark? It IS a whale shark... whale sharks are plankton feeders and the largest species of sharks. In fact, they are the LARGEST FISH in the world, seeing as how actual whales are mammals. Here is a clip from a NatGeo documentary on whale sharks, PLEASE watch (it is narrated for, it seems, which I think should help in your case):

Should be kept in Karachi's national museum.
@Omer: Stop this petty provinvialism!! It is sickening,
They are coastal waters of Pakistan , not Sindh.
I don't have any problem, as long as it's eaten or fed or displayed or used in any way. As long as its not wasted. B happy dont fight over a dead fish :).
Why is it being sent to Islamabad? It belongs to SINDH & Karachi and should be preserved here. Wonder who had this brilliant idea to transport a Sea Animal to ISB? It makes complete sense to preserve the fish in Karachi where it was found.
LOL -- a dead fish for national heritage - zindabad Pakistan.
@Bilal: Except that in a few short weeks it will stink to high heaven due to putrefaction.
@Omar; Why not a whale shark Omar? An Orca perhaps, or maybe Willy?
@Omar: What would you call a 'Whale Shark' if not 'Whale Shark'? Don't give me the species/genus, 99.9% of us won't get a clue if you do.
Good. Islamabad can keep the rotten fish.
BTW surely they stuffed and embalmed it BEFORE transportation to Isloo. I can't believe the carried all that rotting flesh to the other end of the country.
Bring to back to Karachi please. A Voice of karachiit.
@Bilal: My sincere apologies my brother :)
@PostMan
its bad joke! which doesn't make any sense.
if it would have found in Florida, would it be transferred to Washginton DC....?
Good its moved to the capital, we Karachiites have the sea, those who don't can at least feel it, even a dead whale skeleton would help.. plus the world visits islamabad nd the city should show everything Pakistan.. great move it is!
With love from Karachi, Pakistan
For whatever you believe in's sake...stop calling it a Whale Shark. Stop embarrassing yourself ET.
excellent move.instead of making poultry feed out of it,it should be preserved in a museum.
I think it belongs to Karachi coastal line area, and would make more sense if kept in Karachi, where it could attract a lot of tourists as well.
