Foreign Ministry spokesperson Abdul Basit had last week said that Pakistan will host the leaders of Afghanistan and Iran at a summit devoted to counter-terrorism.
It had also been reported earlier that Afghan President Hamid Karzai will press Pakistan to provide access to senior Afghan Taliban leaders when he visits Islamabad.
Pakistan and Iran are also expected to hold talks on the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline on the sidelines. Despite strong US objections, Pakistan says it is pressing ahead with a multi-billion-dollar project to build a gas pipeline to import fuel from Iran. In the deal signed in 2010, Iran has agreed to supply natural gas to its eastern neighbour from 2014.
The talks come at a time of heightened tension between Iran and the United States, notably over speculation about a possible Israeli attack against Iran’s controversial nuclear programme.
It also comes with Afghanistan keen to start peace talks with Taliban insurgents. Kabul is reportedly concerned about being sidelined by contacts between the US and the Taliban.

Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan must resolve all issues bi-mutual understanding and interest, because this single way out of such regional crises if we want to bring peace and prosperity of the region in a real sense. Universal powers are use all of us against each others.
@WoW: Wrong. India will be quite happy to have not been invited. It would be in a pickle if it was invited and didn't attend - especially since Iran is attending. This gathering of superpowers is best left to superpowers.

At last karzai again turns towards Pakistan after being sidelined by US from negotiations with Taliban, regional players should join hands together to formulate a policy for Afghan peace, America has lost the war completely and the next thing US would do is to divide the Afghanistan into two parts under the control of northern Alliance and Taliban respectively to take revenge of defeat fby backing the Northern alliance so that insurgency continues. and this could be even more worse for the stability in Pakistan, So i again say that the end game of Afghanistan should be sorted out carefully and peacefully only by regional players Iran, Afghanistan, Russia, Pakistan and China,
