The world number 27 became the first German champion at the event since Steffi Graf in 1995.
PARIS:
Germany’s Angelique Kerber won the WTA Paris Open by defeating second-seed Marion Bartoli of France 7-6, 5-7, 6-3 in the final. The world number 27 became the first German champion at the event since Steffi Graf in 1995. “It’s incredible,” said Kerber. “The match was very tough but I fought for all the big points. It’s been a fantastic week.” Meanwhile, Bartoli was in tears by the time post-match presentations were conducted. “I pushed myself all the way but it was not enough,” said Bartoli.
