LAHORE: Electricity installations suffered damages estimated at Rs3 billion in the wake of severe flooding across the country, Pakistan Electric Power Company’s (Pepco) executives said on Sunday.

“The Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco) alone has suffered a loss of Rs2.1 billion,” said Pepco’s managing director Tahir Basharat Cheema.

Participants at a Pepco meeting assessed the damage caused to electricity installations and reviewed progress on the restoration work being carried out in the flood-affected areas.

The managing director said the power distribution companies were complying with the flood contingency plan made earlier this month. Standard operating procedures were decided for all distribution companies in case of an emergency, he said.

Cheema claimed that 70 per cent electricity had been restored in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The meeting was also informed that 95 per cent of electricity has been restored in all power distribution companies.

The managing director has also issued instructions to all power distribution companies to place their reserve essential material and staff at the disposal of Pesco so that efforts to restore electricity in the remaining areas can be accelerated.

Cheema also held a meeting with Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf and submitted a detailed report of the situation.
