KARACHI:

National champion Mehmood Lodhi’s rankings took a dive after he was held to a draw in the Ferdowsi and Khyam International Chess Open in Iran yesterday.

Lodhi, ranked 14th at the beginning of the tournament, fell to 52 in the rankings after managing just a 2-2 draw in his fifth-round match against Vojdani Siavosh.

“My plan is to participate in international events as much as possible so that I can earn the title of grandmaster,” said Lodhi.

“This target can be achieved by 2014, but if events like this one are held regularly in Iran and other Asian countries then I can collect the 60 points sooner.”
