GILGIT: Just when people thought target killings had stopped, a political figure in Gilgit was wounded by unknown gunmen in broad daylight on Saturday. This time, the victim was Minhajuddin, the regional information secretary of Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam (JUI-F), who escaped an attempt on his life when armed men riding a motorbike opened fire at him. He was shifted to Government Hospital Kashrot in critical condition, where he underwent surgery. According to hospital sources, Minhaj was shot five times in the shoulder.  The police have registered a case against unknown men and started investigations. The incident triggered panic across the city once again, with markets closing down due to the fear of an escalation in violence. Meanwhile, taking note of the incident, the district administration has imposed a ban on pillion riding in Gilgit for the next 15 days.
