Pakistani pop singer Ali Zafar, who is making waves across India, has been awarded with the ‘Superstar of Tomorrow’ award at the Stardust for his role in the film Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.
Stardust Awards are one of the most prestigious Indian movie awards sponsored by the Stardust magazine. Some of the categories are decided by reader’s choice while others by jury. The award given to Zafar falls in the latter category.
Ali Zafar, who reached the ceremony late because of a performance on the same day at Kalagodha festival for the London Paris New York soundtrack launch, was seen wearing an Ismail Farid outfit. His award was received by Ali Abbas Zafar, director of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. “Thank you Stardust for the honour. This is indeed my first award in Bollywood and a massive one,” the singer-cum-actor tweeted later. He was nominated for the award along with four other new actors including Jacky Bhagnani (F.A.L.T.U), Chirag Paswan (Miley Naa Miley Hum), Rana Daggubati (Dum Maro Dum) and Prateik Babbar (Dhobi Ghat).
The film is Zafar’s second Bollywood film, after the singer-cum-actor made his debut in Abhishek Sharma’s Tere Bin Laden, where he had played an ambitious reporter aiming to fulfil his American dream and received accolades for his role. Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films, also stars Katrina Kaif and Imran Khan in the lead roles.
Zafar’s latest venture is yet another Bolywood film — London, Paris, New York — in which he plays the lead character along with Indian actor Aditi Rao Hydari. The film is expected to release on March 2.
