PML-N decides on candidates for 7 Senate seats

Shortlisted candidates will take up 4 general seats, a technocrat seat, a lady seat and a minority seat.

LAHORE:
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Opposition in the Senate, has finalised its candidates for its seven seats in the upper house.

Out of seven seats, four candidates have been shortlisted for general seats including Sardar Zulfiqar Khan Khosa, and Zafar Dhandla from Bhakkar, M Hamza from Toba Tek Singh and Rafique Rijwana, on the technocrat seat Ishaq Dar. On the Lady seat, Begum Nuzhat Sadiq has been finalised. While for the minority seat, the Provincial Minister for Finance and Human Rights Kamran Michael has been selected.

PML-N’s senior leader Ghulam Dastgeer Khan and former Bureaucrat Saeed Mehdi has been asked to prepare as the covering candidates.

Dhandla usually contested his election form district Bhakkar against the Niwani family. However, with the Niwani family now joining the PML-N and Dhandhla threatening to join PTI, has agreed to take up PML-N’s Senate seat.

M Hamza is party’s senior party leader and was about to join PTI in Toba Tek Singh when his opponent Bilal Warraich joined the PML-N. PML-N has appeased the M Hamza by awarding it with a Senate ticket.

Rafique Rajwana is a senior lawyer and a former PML-N senator.

Provincial Minister for Finance and Human Rights Kamran Michael too has confirmed that he would be taking up the PML-N Senate minority seat.
