Lawyers’ killing case: Three SSP activists remanded to custody

Three alleged activists of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) arrested by the CID on suspicion of killing three lawyers were remanded to the physical custody of investigators till February 18 by an Anti-Terrorism Court here on Thursday.


The three lawyers - Badr-e-Munir Jaffery, Kafeel Jaffery and Shakeel Jaffery - were gunned down on January 25 by unidentified assassins in Arambagh limits. Baber Ali, the fourth occupant of their car, survived the deadly attack and is being treated.

All three accused men, Muhammad Tofique Ansari, Alauddin and Maulana Muhammad Rashid, were presented before Judge Ghulam Mustafa Memon of ATC III where they were shown to have been arrested on February 2 in the triple homicide. Two others - Afzal Baloch and Mehmood Baber - were shown as on the run.

The judge also called for a progress report from the investigation officer.

Cop killers

Meanwhile another anti-terrorism court remanded two accused who allegedly killed a traffic policeman during a dacoity bid, to the custody of Ferozabad Police till February 16.

Junaid Khan and Atif Khan were booked by the Ferozabad police on a complaint by Sub Inspector Qurban Ali, a witness to the incident that took place on main Shahrae Faisal.

Judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso of ATC I, after going through the remand papers, according to which the accused were arrested on February 8, ordered them to be in physical custody of the investigating officer till February 16.
