KARACHI:

The authorities have booked two suspects, including a former union council nazim, for attacking the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) office in Lyari.

On Tuesday night, two PPP workers identified as Somoar, 50, and 40-year-old Dad Rehman were killed while five others were injured when motorcyclists attacked PS-111 with a hand grenade.

The police registered FIR no. 16/12 under sections 302/34, 324/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code and section ¾ of the Explosives Act of 1884 on a complaint from Soomar’s brother Asghar Baloch against Lyari’s former UC nazim Abdul Rauf Baloch and PPP leader Akram Baloch’s nephew Afzal Baloch.

Kalakot SHO Azam Ali Gopang said that the hand grenade attack was a result of the gang war. He added that raids were being carried out to arrest the suspects.

Rauf Baloch and his brother Amjad Lashari were members of the Rehman Dakait group and were on the run because they were accused of being involved in Dakait’s murder.

The brothers had joined hands with Akram Baloch and Arshad Pappu’s gang and were allegedly responsible for the attacks on PPP workers and Peoples Amn Committee’s (PAC) members.

While talking to The Express Tribune, PAC’s Zafar Baloch said that his rivals were working together as the enemy of an enemy was always a friend. He added that the police had promised to take action against the suspects behind the attacks.

A heavy contingent of Rangers and the police were sent to Lyari to monitor the area.
