Cricket: I will make sure I’m not dropped again, says Hammad Azam
Recalled Hammad Azam surprised but ready to perform.

Hammad Azam was busy playing for Federal Areas against Balochistan in the ongoing Pentangular Cup when he received the ‘surprise’ call-up to the national squad for the limited-overs series against England.
The 20-year-old, who has played five One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for Pakistan, was shocked and pleased, and has vowed a performance that will force the selectors to stick with him for a long time.
“I wasn’t expecting to be picked,” Hammad told The Express Tribune. “I was in the field when I heard of my selection and it came as a huge surprise to me. I’m delighted and am looking forward to paying back the selectors’ trust in me through my performances.”
Vows to cement place
Hammad, who launched his first-class career in 2008, came into the limelight during the 2010 Under-19 World Cup before getting the selectors’ nod for the senior team’s tour of the West Indies last year. However, the all-rounder’s introduction to the international arena remained unimpressive as he could only score 38 runs from the three innings he batted during his five-match career.
The Attock-born player was consequently dropped from the squad after the ODI series against Ireland last May. However, Hammad has vowed to give a much-improved performance against England.
“My target is to cement my place with a good performance. If given the chance, I’ll make sure I’m not dropped again. I’m fit and well-prepared because of my participation in the Pentangular Cup.” Pakistan’s form in the Tests has given me much confidence. It’s a motivating factor for me and has reduced the pressure of making a comeback.”
