An Elite Force official was arrested on Sunday night after a man died following a collision between his motorcycle and a patrolling vehicle.
One person was injured in the incident.
Muhammad Asif, who was an employee at the Multan Institute of Cardiology, and his colleague, Atif, were returning home after work on Sunday when their motorcycle collided with the Elite Force vehicle. They were taken to Nishter Hospital where Asif passed away. Atif’s condition was described by doctors who treated him as critical. They said Atif would be kept under observation at the intensive care unit for two days.
SSP (Operations) Azhar Akram told The Express Tribune that an FIR had been registered against the official, Muhammad Asif, at Lohari police station under Section 320 of the Paksitan Penal Code. Earlier, relatives of the deceased placed the body of road and staged a protest demonstration against the incident.
The protesters blocked the road, suspending traffic for over two hours. They dispersed when a police team arrived at the scene and ensured them of action against the officials responsible for the accident.
Asif’s body was later handed over to the police who have sent it for an autopsy.
