Auto industry: Technical education to reduce skills gap

KARACHI:

NED University Vice Chancellor Abul Kalam has said that the Toyota Technical Education Programme (T-TEP) is an outstanding means to reduce the gap between demand for skills by the auto industry and training of individuals by the educational system.

He said this while speaking at the 7th Career Day at St Patrick’s Institute of Science and Technology organised by Indus Motor Company (IMC).

T-TEP is a three-year automobile diploma conducted with the assistance of IMC. The programme provides training to students in state-of-the-art automobile technology, enabling them to pursue successful careers after graduation.

IMC Chief Executive Parvez Ghias said the idea behind this initiative was to train Pakistani youth by providing them world-class technical training. IMC offers the programme in collaboration with three institutes in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. It also annually conducts career day at these institutes, where the graduating students are offered jobs by the auto industry.
