Multiple reassurances: PM vows to end energy crisis

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has assured the public that the finance ministry will resolve the issue of circular debt within weeks, after which load-shedding would be implemented only to scheduled timings.

While talking on PTV, he said that the government has initiated multi-pronged strategies to combat the energy shortage through the Diamer-Bhasha Dam project, renovation of Mangla Dam, the Thar Coal project, the TAPI gas project and through import of gas and electricity from Iran and India respectively.

He also expressed his intent to take up the issue of importing liquefied natural gas from Qatar on his next visit to the country and indicated that all issues regarding the Iran Pakistan gas pipeline have been resolved.
