In-laws & out-laws: 1 sentenced to death, 2 to life for murder

Accused were convicted in a murder case involving a young woman over dowry in 2006.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Kasur Chaudhry Umar Hayat sentenced a man to death and another two to life terms in prison for murder.


According to police officials, the accused were convicted in a murder case involving a young woman over dowry in 2006. “There was a dispute about the girl’s family not handing over the agreed dowry,” the prosecution told reporters. Nathoki resident Akbar Ali, the father-in-law of victim Shaheen Bibi was given a death sentence and his accomplices including Shaheen’s brother-in-law Pervaz Akber and her mother-in-law Shahnaz Bibi were given life sentences.

The court also ruled that the three convicts would have to pay Rs100,000 fine each. Another co-accused Shah Sawar, the victim’s husband was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
