SYDNEY: Struggling opener Shaun Marsh and wicket-keeper Brad Haddin were left out of Australia’s One-Day International (ODI) squad to face India and Sri Lanka in the tri-nation series.

Marsh, 28, put in a poor performance during the Test series, scoring just 17 runs after returning to the side following a back injury. Haddin, meanwhile, has been rested in favour of Matthew Wade. National selector John Inverarity said that despite his poor form, Marsh will remain in contention for a comeback.

“Marsh remains in our thinking for the future while he works at state level,” said Inverarity. “As they say, class is permanent but form can be temporary.”

Arthur wary of backlash

Meanwhile, Australia coach Mickey Arthur expects a strong reaction to the Test series loss from India in the two Twenty20s and the triangular series that follows.

“We’re going to see a different India,” said Arthur. “There’s no doubt. They’ve got players who bring a huge amount of enthusiasm [like Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma].”

Raina, meanwhile, was confident that the limited-overs leg will be different since there was enthusiasm in the squad to do well.

“The new boys who have joined for the limited-overs leg have the passion to do well,” said Raina. “We’ve worked hard. The new boys have been playing a lot of first-class cricket and we’ve done well in internationals too. It’ll be a good challenge for us.”
