Police have arrested five men involved in kidnapping people from Punjab and handing them over to the Taliban, Express News reported on Sunday.

In search of an industrialist, who was earlier kidnapped in Lahore, security forces conducted a raid in the area near the Salt Range and arrested the group members.

Police managed to free the kidnapped industrialist in a 15-hour long operation and apprehended the kidnappers.

Aid worker kidnapped in Punjab

Earlier, police had accused militants for the abduction of a German aid worker and his Italian colleague, kidnapped at gunpoint from Multan.

The two aid workers were dragged from the house they had rented in the city, bringing to six the number of Westerners kidnapped in Pakistan since July.

“The kidnappers have made no contact so far,” Azhar Akram, the head of the police investigation team told AFP from Multan.
