ROME: AC Milan’s signing of Argentine striker Maxi Lopez on a loan deal effectively ended the Serie A side’s pursuit of compatriot Carlos Tevez from Manchester City. Lopez, who has scored three goals in 14 league appearances for Serie A rivals Catania this season, joins Milan on loan with the option to make the move permanent in the summer. “We were very near concluding [a deal for] Tevez,” said AC Milan Chief Executive Adriano Galliani who indicated that City were in the end looking for more than Milan were willing to pay. Meanwhile, Inter and French side Paris Saint-Germain, the two other clubs which had been linked with Tevez, have already withdrawn their interest.
