President endorses IHC establishment bill 2010

President Asif Ali Zardari has signed the Islamabad High Court (IHC) establishment bill on Thursday.

The assent was accorded during a signing ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Federal Minister for Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan, Attorney General of Pakistan Justice (R) Maulvi Anwar-ul-Haq and Secretary Law Division Muhammad Masood Chishti were also present on the occasion of signing of the bill.

Presidential spokesman Farhat ullah Babar told the media in Islamabad that the bill was approved by the National Assembly on June 30 after its amendments by the Senate.

Sources said that even though the president has signed the bill, the appointment of judges in the Islamabad High Court would be possible only after the Supreme Court approves the 18th amendment.

TARIK NIAZI | 14 years ago | Reply Signing of bill is only an activity and is useless if judges are not appointed.Thousands of cases are awaiting judgement.Any more delay will amount to giving protection to high profile criminals.Signing of bill is only to pressurise the CJ to approve the 18th Amndt in its present form. The honourable CJ should find a way out so that the high profile criminals are brought to the book.
