Cricket: Ruthless South Africa U19 crush Pakistan

Tourists humiliated by seven wickets in 1st ODI

News Desk January 25, 2012

South Africa under-19 thrashed Pakistan under-19 by seven wickets in the first Youth One-Day International at the Stellenbosch University Ground.

Pakistan’s batting, fresh from a humiliation in the Tri-Nation Series final where they went down to the same opposition, was exposed again as they were bundled out for a paltry 114 in the 40th over with no batsman managing more than Faraz Ali’s 28. Prenelan Subrayen claimed four for 22 and new-ball bowlers Lizaad Williams and Jan Frylinck shared four dismissals between them as Pakistan struggled to find their feet.

In reply, Murray Coetzee (44) ensured the hosts were never in trouble as they overhauled the meagre total in the 39th over. Ziaul Haq claimed the only wicket to fall to the bowlers.
