LHC asks for PITAC general manager’s resume

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday sought a copy of the curriculum vitae (CV) by Pakistan Industrial Technical Assistance Centre (PITAC) general manager Tariq Ahmed at the time of his employment.

Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry also directed a deputy attorney general to submit Ahmed’s bio data to the court on August 2. He was holding proceedings in a petition challenging Ahmed’s appointment PITAC general manager.

The court passed this order after the petitioner’s counsel pointed out that Tariq had not submitted his educational certificates, along with his application, and that the selection committee had approved his name ‘on political grounds’. He pointed out that only a mechanical engineer or electrical engineer with additional qualifications of a project designer was eligible for the post but the respondent did not possess any of these qualifications.

The counsel said the respondent was neither a mechanical engineer nor an electrical engineer and his appointment was made only due to his relationship with the federal minister, Manzoor Wattoo, who had used his political influence to get Ahmed appointed.

The court, while hearing the petition of Khalid Mehmood, has already restrained Tariq Ahmed from functioning as the GM.

The petitioner’s counsel had taken the plea that Ahmed’s appointment in 2008 had been made in obvious violation of merit since he did not possess the required qualifications. He had prayed to the court that an explanation be sought from the respondent.
