A source, on the condition of anonymity told DawnNews that “General Pasha, who has remained very close to the former president, held a meeting with him (Musharraf) in Dubai and advised him not to return to the country as the situation is not conducive for his return.”
Democracy decides to arrest dictator on arrival
The Senate on Monday unanimously passed a resolution calling for pressing treason charges against former president Pervez Musharraf under Article 6 of the Constitution.
The resolution was presented by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Senator Raza Rabbani, who also chairs the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, which is probing the November 26 Nato strike.
The reasons stated in the resolution included that the former president should be arrested on arrival since he had suspended the constitution twice and compromised national security by entering into accords with certain countries.
It further said that Musharraf had decreased the share of provinces in the National Finance Commission (NFC) award and had used state power to both supress Baloch nationalists and assisting the killing of veteran Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Bugti and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
Last week, Interior Minister Rehman Malik had assured the Senate that Musharraf would be arrested upon his return to Pakistan.
“I assure this house that if he lands in Pakistan, he will be arrested because he is a proclaimed offender in the Benazir Bhutto murder case,” the minister said.
The interior minister’s assurance came after Rabbani had submitted a 10-point charge sheet in Senate, calling for the former dictator’s arrest.
Musharraf had announced earlier in January that he will arrive in Pakistan between January 27 and January 30. He recently delayed his plans to return after close friends and aides advised him against it, stating that his life is under threat in Pakistan.

The news is correct but the reporter failed to mention the date. The meeting was held on 5th Jan i.e. four days prior to Karachi Jalsa announcement. Musharraf announced the date on 8th Jan after the meeting.
@Maryam: Have you read Dr. Arif Alvi and Imran Khan's own statements?
@Tehreek-e-Insaf FATA:
I am also supporter of Imran khan. I am ready to vote for him. But please, get your facts straight. I personally met Imran Khan in Paris atleast 2 years ago when PTI was not that famous in Pakistan. Bash Musharraf but with good reasoning your facts are not correct.
@Farz: All what you have said, is true to the best of knowledge of all Pakistanis who will not say that the crow is white. Thanks Frederick
you are right Musharraf is the true son of soil.and all cheaper politician in Pakistan afraid he will not come back because he is only one who catch all big thief sitting in government opposition.now in the Pakistan all parties playing Nora Khushti no any single politician do some thing for Pakistan every one make money.evening all together sitting in talk show programs and show people we are fighting but inside all same just TV drama.please come forward and support him he is real son of soil.
How can Pakistan allow this so-called Lt. Gen. officer to do all such illegal acts? Shouldn't he be court-marshaled pronto? What sort of country is Pakistan where the Khaki tramples on the State's Laws?
the lal mosque operation was the biggest mistake made by parevaiz. although those guys were not completely on target but some of their actions were absolutely brave and outstanding.( action again anti shamim ) is one of them.
@Godfather: He is rather a true son of b8?@& who does not have the guts to face the punishment for the heinous crimes he has committed. So much for a commando who said, "mai darta warta kisi se nahi!"
So is it the ISI chief's job to facilitate people who have committed treason against Pakistan from getting due punishment OR is it his job to help such a person escape justice through secret meetings?
What happens if Rahman Malik's police go to arrest Mushy & find him surrounded by Pasha's Khaki brigade & don't allow them to arrest him? A big (non)constitutional deadlock!
@TN, Advocate: Mush is the one who started milking the US for what it is worth! Don't forget Pakistan was in the verge of bankruptcy just before the 9/11 terror attack! All that changed as Mush signed up to do the US bidding in the region for generous US military and civil aid in billions, supposedly under "pressure"! Government under him continued to keep the jihadi fire going with "strategic assets" and other al-Qaeda affiliates! When his shenanigans were about to come out he left Pakistan. The hapless Zardari government which took "power" after him had been used as a whipping boy by the current puppeteers whenever things don't go well. These are the real achievements of President Mushraff!
Did Pasha report to PM for his another adventure, (this guy loves traveling overseas).
@ Tn Advocate , Whatever we are facing today is a direct result of Musharraf's deeds. Who devised NRO to bring crminials to power? Who allowed ISI to hire Lal Masjid Moulvees? Who imposed "genius" persons like Sh.Rasheed. And Pervez Elahi on this poor nation? What authority he had to make gamblers like Tariq Azeez virtual Dy.PM of this ill fated country?
@Godfather: I think the masses of Pakistan recall the instability and bad name Musharraf gave to the nation. In what world can a man who illegally takes over power as a dictator come back and contest elections? I am sorry but Mr. Musharraf deserves to be charged with treason upon his return to send a signal of what will happen to any person who thinks he is above the law and constitution of the state.
@Yasir Sheikh: A better questions is if PPP is loyal to Pakistan or their own kind?
@Babloo: Babloo sahab, Your Khakis are above the laws of your country, didn't you know that?
@Mohammad Ali Siddiqui: Absolutely right and it can line-up with democracy that is at least 2/3 cycles to make treasonous generals in line to obey constitution. There is no accountability on treason because of support Judiciary supplied to the culprits. Now this Judiciary has learned its lesson the hard way and to create example at least one case must be opened and all those who planned and supported treason must be brought to justice if we want to live civilized and out of foreign influence. Yes 'Pakistan First' in practice and army distance second and bring all the generals involved to court to make really "Pakistan First".
ISI is a state within a state and they can do anything they want. They can go places and protect their crony generals.
Although a public servant and funded/paid by tax-payers, it appears that Pasha knows no boundaries. He is more a politician that a spy, with a mobility and resources of this poor state at his disposal. Somehow, he is the first one to meet (that too in the pleasant settings of a 5-start hotel in London or Dubai) anyone who may be working against the democratic government. From Abbottabad to Mansoor Ijaz to Musharraf, what more reason Gillani needs to dismiss Pasha and lay charges to undermine the government against the military code of conduct?
Regardless of the politics. Hasn't anyone even noticed that your ISI chief is helping a high profile criminal evade capture openly? Whether he's a criminal or not due to circumstances and whatever else you want to consider valid, he's still deemed one by Pakistan, and Pakistan's ISI chief is openly trying to help him not be arrested.
The law of the land should extend to all. Musharraf should face up to the crimes he has committed including subverting the constitution. The current lot should face up to any corruption allegations. The ISI Chief should answer in what capacity he is advising a person who has an arrest warrant on his name, to stay away from the country. This is the only way out.
@Tehreek-e-Insaf FATA: I support all the steps taken by Musharraf except the handing over of Aafia Siddiqui and Musharraf should do everything to bring her back with him otherwise he should stay where he is. In regards to Lal Masjid it was very fine decision because 'THEKEDAR OF ISLAM' (Mullahs) are using it for their own sole purposes. Don't be sentimental over it because it was a Masjid don't forget how they manage to get all that Ammo inside the Masjid. Those who protest against Lal Masjid are responsible for domestic terrorism. I had supported and will continue to support any future actions by our Military and GoP to eradicate extremism whatever it takes.
well said Mr Raza... it's like you stole my thoughts... thumbs up
Your emotions and feelings may be genuine as of now but General it's now too late for you to show what you are capable of! You have already messed up a lot in the past during your rule. We are only left with one last hope and that is Imran Khan so we can't take any risk by giving away votes to failed politicians like you. Every politician was given a chance but everyone failed and now when the country is facing grave crisis they expect us to give them a chance. The future of this country is in our hands and this solely depends on our votes.
Was General Pasha going to Dubai and advising Musharaf approved by General Pasha's boss Prime Minister Gilani?
@ Tehreek-e-Insaf FATA, In the end of your comment, you said that Musharaf should stay where he is, and same time you said that we desrerve the mess we are in because we don't punish leaders like Musharaf. May I ask, if Musharaf doesn't come, which way we would punish him, Perhaps through "Video Conference".
Musharraf always wanted best for his country. His priority was always the welfare of the people. Look at his achievements. Look at his tenure as a whole not BS being presented as facts by PTI trolls.
Economy from a mere 60 billion USD to 175 billion USD.

Telecom sector has attracted an investment of $ 9 billion in the last three years. It alone created 80,000 jobs directly and 500,000 jobs indirectly
Motorway police
Pakistan flourished during his tenure. No one can deny this.
This man pasha has a penchant for personally meeting people in dubai, london and other exotic locations. Nobody questions that anytime. Why cant he just communicate over phone? Or over email? or by video conference? Why does he have to stay in 5star hotels paid for by people to just have a conversation with his well-wishers...
In what capacity ISI Chief Shuja Pasha was giving advice to Musharraf? I would really want to know if ISI and army is loyal to Pakistan or their own kind?
Why ISI chief is advising a criminal not to face justice? Does not it violate his responsibilities as chief spy?
@TN, Advocate. I am not pro Musharraf but agree with your comment!
So thye ISI chief is in touch with a proclaimed offender and absconder and is advising him ? Did I understand this wrong ?
Mushy u r responsible for every mess created in this country, u r not welcomed in politics because http://707monty.blogspot.com/2012/01/musharraf-please-have-mercy-on-poor.html
balochistan was most peaceful before musharaf but when he started operation the situation became worse and worse, and Gawadar port is unused after so many years because Gawadar has still underdeveloped infrastructure and port has no use because balochistan and afghanistan situation is uncertain and there is no market developed in that area for that purpose, and musharaf sold it for his own interest.
This is the main reason dictatorial forces and their touts hate democracy. It is a lesson for all backdoor politicians and future generals. Hats off to Senate which is the true reflection of all provinces of Pakistan. Now both Mush and Mansoor Ijaz cannot dare come to Pakistan.
@Tehreek-e-Insaf FATA: I agree with you, believe me.
I rather give you a vote than the pro Musharraf guys stacked in PTI.
The absolute irony of it all; the feudals and corrupt politicians who have destroyed the country with their greed and incompetence are filing treason charge against Musharraf for murder of the woman who couldn't have come back in the first place without the NRO that he initiated (and which was his main blunder). No wonder we don't have any hope.
Great. Hats off to Senator Mian Raza Rabbani. Raza Rabbani has made history. For the first time in the history of Pakistan, dictator is going to face treason charges.
Finally. What happens if he does not show up in PAK.
Issue an Interpol warrant based on previous Absconding charges along with the treason charge. It is easy to convict him on treason charge any way and extradition won't be a problem. Well, is anybody in PAK listening or will ET again censor the comment?
The Senate & government are acting like an injured lion who knows that it is about to die but want to destroy everything near it aimlessly. Who first started military operation in Baluchistan in the history? It is so-called "dad of democracy" Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto!! It's him who started this conflict. The government is interested in Musharraf's trial for 10-years old "crimes", supreme court's trial for 20+ years old decision of ZAB hanging and Mansoor Ijaz's trial for conspiracy against BB 15+ years ago.Pakistani nation is not interested in decades old conflicts and they care more about the current events only.
Ridiculous!! Long Live Musharraf..
Imran Khan will not support the treason charges against Musharaf!
Peaceful Balochistan = musharaf arrest
Another attempt to stop him
these corrupt n fuedal politician can not stop him to come back n pave the winning way of pakistan
The only way to block Martial Law from future occurring, it is necessary that a treason case should be initiated against the former military dictator General Pervez Musharraf.
This will discourage such people who want to enter from the back door of the presidency to rule the country which is against and contrary to the wishes and desire of the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
