Two boys, who were on their way back from a tennis court, were picked up by security personnel near a sensitive military installation in Islamabad but were released after being questioned.
The boys were in the custody of the security personnel of the Islamabad Helipad, while a large contingent of police set off a frantic search in nearby forests after the boys were reported as ‘kidnapped’ by their family.
They have been identified as Kazim and Alamdar.
A private news channel also raised alarm when they falsely reported that two terrorists were arrested by security agencies near a sensitive agency office in Shakarparian.
Kazim and Alamdar were detained for over two hours and were released after the completion of certain formalities, said a police official.
“The military guards of the Helipad picked them up on suspicion of wandering in a sensitive location in their tennis kits,” said the police official.
Their mother, wife of the owner of Headstart School, was an eyewitness to the incident and mistook it for kidnapping.
She informed the Rescue 15 police and the IG that her sons were kidnapped by ‘armed men’ right in front of her eyes.
The city police, assisted by its canine unit, started a search for the boys in a forest near the site.
Having had no luck with the search, the police checked with military officials who informed them that the boys were in their custody and were being questioned over their ‘suspicious’ presence in the area.
They boys were released after their parents established contact with military officials and the police assured them the boys were only returning from nearby tennis courts.
Police officials clarified no terrorists were arrested by the police or the security personnel from the area.
