MIRPUR: A day before representatives of people affected by the Mangla Dam upraising project are due to take to the streets, official sources reiterated that the ongoing process of resettlement and rehabilitation of displaced families is all set to be completed on time. The people who have been displaced because of construction on Mangla Dam, had threatened to stage a sit-in from January 20, if their demand to resettle families before their lands are submerged is not met. The government has allocated over Rs5billion for water supply and sanitation, the first time such a large amount has been earmarked in the territory for municipal facilities, official sources said declining to be identified. A two-kilometre long Rathua Harayam Bridge will also be constructed over Mangla Lake to link Mirpur with the adjoining historic town of Islamgarh, formerly known as Akalgarh.
