Faisal Shakeel, The Express Tribune’s reporter in Islamabad, says the prime minister's new counsel Aitzaz Ahsan has succeeded in buying the Prime Minster some time to formulate his defence. He adds that having Ahsan -- a prominent leader of the lawyer's movement -- as Gilani's counsel is a positive step for the PPP, as a majority of the judges sitting on the bench were also those who were restored as a result of the movement.
Shakeel also highlights the drama outside the courtroom, where several PPP leaders and MPAs chanted slogans in favour of the party, to which lawyers retaliated with their own chants in favour of the chief justice. Shakeel says such chants politicised the court and were unwarranted.

The sitting has been CJP politicized since the day he picked up the 2 cases (Pak Steel & Missing Persons) on the behest of Nawaz Sharif & from that day on he has sided with the Sharif's.
I only blame him to destroy the current judicial system.
The PCO SC is a full-time trial court for the trials against the elected govt only. The real functions of the highest appeals court are all forgotten just like the imp cases rotting in SC for decades. Unlike any other country, all trials in Pakistan start from Punjab HC or SC. No other court is allowed to function. The same lawyers who were showering Qadri with roses are with the PCO CJ now, as long as he releases all the terrorists. They have formed a defacto rightwing alliance with the CJ.
??? don't understand the media ki dushmani with PPP...this is not true that the lawyers chanted in reaction to PPP...and it doesn't make sense that only MPAs could have created such a rumpus..which the lawyers did so much so that the counsel Aitizaz Ahsen couldn't even speak to media. etribune should avoid such biased reporting....just opposite of what the entire Pakistan watched. Very dissappointing.
@pervez: What amendments in the constitution require??? Is our rulers are beyond the current constitution???
@TI from FATA Your argument has become such a cliche that it means nothing now. Just tell me, was it right the way the Chief's jaanisar lawyers acted today? It was utter rowdy politics. That's exactly why I feel the CJ should form a political party.
Different people have different opinions as every one does not know what is the law or what is politics.
I am confident that whatever judgement Supreme Court will deliver whether in the contempt of court case of PM Gilani or in the memo scandal case of Mansoor Ejaz, the verdict of full bench of Supreme Court is not going to harm Pakistan in any case.
I have already mentioned in one of my other write-up that most of the people in Pakistan who talk about on different issues or give interpretation in any issue are factory owners and such factories are constructed on acres which only produce rumors.
Such factory owners do not apply for any utility and they don't have to pay income tax as well.
The productivity of such factories are 100% without employing any workers and these factories work round the clock without a break even for single minute.
The next number comes of the media. When I sit in front of a TV screen, it seems that sky may be falling down any moment, but actually it does not happen.
May Al-Mighty Allah give wisdom to the people to talk sense and talk positive so that their talks should not harm Pakistan. Ameen
@K Ali: Okay then bring a resolution to make some amendments in the constitution
@pervez: I find your views slightly naive to be polite. "....the Prime Minister is only answerable to Parliament not to the people who are appointed by him.". Does that mean police cannot stop him from committing a crime or does it mean FBR cannot make him pay his tax. Being elected (on bogus electoral lists) does not mean he should be above any law of the land. Sadly its true that there is one law for common man and another for the rich and powerful. I am disappointed that someone like you should be supporting and advocating such discrimination.
Whether its a Memo scandal case or it is NRO implementation case Pakistan’s Supreme Court is making itself a political force, SC is continuously growing its pressure over a democratic Government and it’s actions and methods may even trigger a Military Coup. Despite all the bad governance, incompetence and spineless decisions by the Government but it does not mean SC should become in-charge of everything, we must remember the Difference between being appointed and being elected, (http://707monty.blogspot.com/2012/01/supreme-court-is-making-itself.html) these Judges are appointed not elected and the Prime Minister is only answerable to Parliament not to the people who are appointed by him.
The Chief Justice and his groupies should form a political party too. Can understand a political party sloganeering but what's with the "Chief teray jaanisar" slogans today??
