LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Thursday sought reply from the Lahore DCO on a petition challenging action of the Punjab government to end marriage functions at 10 pm.

Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed passed the order on a petition filed by Lahore Marriage Halls Association general secretary Javaid Nasir. The judge asked the DCO to identify the law under which marriage halls are being closed at 10 pm.

The petitioner contended that action of the Punjab government to stop marriage functions at 10 pm had no legal cover. He submitted that if necessary the government should fix a midnight deadline as such functions are mostly held between 10 pm and 12 am. The petitioner said the deadline has destroyed the businesses of marriages halls.

The court will resume the hearing on January 24.
