PESHAWAR: Over a hundred militants attacked the Riaz Shaheed police post in the Sarband area of Peshawar, killing two policemen and one Frontier Corps (FC) soldier. In the late night attack, heavily armed militants fired rocket-propelled grenades followed by firing. “The police and FC were pushed back initially, but we started gearing up for a counter-operation soon,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Tahir Ayub told The Express Tribune. Tahir added that the attack was in reaction to an operation by security forces which had been launched in the Badhaber area, bordering the Khyber Agency. “We, along with the paramilitary forces, destroyed three of their important hideouts,” he said and added that almost 150 militants took part in the retaliatory attack on the police check post.
