Fraud Case: Remand of Majid Naeem extended

            Judicial Magistrate Zafer Iqbal on Thursday extended by four days the physical remand of Dr Majid Naeem, former principal of Punjab University College of Information Technology allegedly involved in a Rs250,000 fraud. He was handed over to the anti-corruption department. The judge directed the investigation officer to record Dr Majid’s statement and produce him in court by January 16. Dr Majid was arrested on January 8 for charge of fraud and brought before the court. The judge had awarded him a three-day physical remand and was called by January 12. The accused was also nominated in a reference of the National Accountability Bureau on charges of withdrawing Rs3.9 million from the university funds without approval of the competent authority. Later, the court had issued his release orders, after he paid the misappropriated amount to the NAB through a plea bargain deal.
