LAHORE:

Representatives of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and civil society staged a rally in support of the government and the current democratic set-up at Liberty Roundabout on Thursday.

Dozens of human rights activists and PPP members participated in the demonstration organised by the Civil Society Network and Centre for Peace.

“Keeping in mind that the democratic set-up is in danger, the participants decided to show their support for the government,” said Abdullah Malik, a rights activist who took part in the protest. “Only the voters have the right to change the government, not judges and generals.”

The protestors chanted slogans in favour of parliament and democracy and warning of mass protests if the judiciary or army sought to remove the government via the Memogate case.

They praised the media for being independent and hoped that the people would foil any attempt to topple the government. They said civil society believed in the supremacy of parliament and democracy.

The protestors included civil society members IA Rehman, Hussain Naqi, Shah Taj Qizilbash, Abdullah Malik, Anjum Rashid, Imtiazul Haq, Shoaib Adil and Amina Malik, as well as PPP leaders Azma Bukhari and Altaf Qureshi.

It's funny to see that civil has become political in supporting the ppp's incompetence.they need to remember the watergate incident which compelled the president of the united states to resign, this govt should resign if found in the incident.
