FAISALABAD:

Former Punjab governor Lieutenant General (Retd) Khalid Maqbool has underlined the need for modernising the agricultural sector to cope with global challenges and ensure food security, which will become a common feature in future due to food shortages in the world.

Speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day conference on pure food and human health, organised by the Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) on Tuesday, he asked agricultural scientists, universities and the private sector to find solutions to food security problems being faced by the country.

GCUF Vice Chancellor Dr Zakir Husain stressed the need for an awareness campaign to educate people about poisonous food and malnutrition, which had caused many fatalities, and expressed hope that the conference would prove a milestone in kicking off the drive.
