ISLAMABAD:

Innovation and the art of entrepreneurship were on display at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) here on Saturday.

The 7th NUML Sales Gala 2012 was organised by the Faculty of Management Sciences and Mass Communication in an effort to promote innovation among its students and help them explore alternative employment avenues.

The students put up stalls showcasing the cultural diversities of Pakistan and included displays of dresses, cloths, shawls, stuffed toys, paintings, calligraphy, perfumes, handicrafts, jewellery, shoes and decoration pieces.

“This is not only fun but sets a precedent towards creating fruitful opportunities for fresh graduates,” said MBA student Umbreen, who set up a jewellery stall with three classmates.

Huma Rashid, a student of management sciences, said the gala provides a blend of theory and hands-on learning of managerial, marketing and entrepreneurial skills while cultivating a business sense. It helps prepare students for professional careers involving a variety of different challenges.

According to NUML student Mohsin Malik, the sales gala “motivates students toward market research and teaches them event management, customer handling, face-to-face communication and customer service”.

MBA student Atif felt that the government should facilitate fresh graduates by providing loans on easy terms for establishing small businesses, which would also create opportunities for others.

Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industries Acting President Raja Aamir Iqbal praised the confidence of students marketing their products. He added that the chamber would allow interested NUML students to display their products in its Annual Trade Exhibition to be held in one of the SAARC countries this year.
