LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) chief justice constituted a three-member bench to hear the petition against Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Wednesday.

The bench will be headed by Chief Justice Shaikh Azmat Saeed to hear the petition filed by Advocate AK Dogar.

The petitioner said that the treason charge under Article 6 of the Constitution should be held against the prime minister. He had argued that the premier publicly states that he respects the court but does not follow it in practice.

The petitioner had appealed to the court to declare that the prime minister had deliberately defied and repeatedly brushed aside orders by the SC and had in 'utter bad faith' tried to subvert the Constitution.

Furthermore, he had asked the court to also declare that the PM was ‘disqualified’ to hold his office.

Earlier, a five-member bench was constituted under former LHC Chief Justice Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmed to hear the petition, but after he was elevated as a Supreme Court judge, the bench was dissolved resulting in the formation of a new bench.
