MUZAFFARABAD: Sardar Ateeq Ahmed was unanimously elected as the new prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

Turmoil in the AJK legislative assembly began when a no-confidence motion was moved in the house against former PM Raja Farooq Haider.

Haider resigned from his post on Monday ahead of the voting on the no-confidence motion.

Nomination papers for the Premiership were to be submitted today. Sardar Ateeq was the only candidate to file the nomination and was elected unanimously. It was the first time that Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister has been elected unanimously.

Sardar Ateeq is the fourth person to assume charge of Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir in four years.
