Two would-be bombers were killed in Punjab’s Gujrat area on Tuesday when they detonated the explosive material they were carrying in a hurry.

Express News reported that the suspected terrorists were riding on motorcycles and were on their way to Wazirabad, when they were alarmed by an ambulance siren.

The bombers parked their bikes and blew themselves up in the Gorali area.  According to the police, a suicide vest, chemicals, ball bearings and a motorcycle registered in Azad Kashmir were found near the blast site.

It was estimated that the attackers were aged between 35 and 45 years, the police added.

The blast came after a long hiatus of militant violence in the province

of Punjab.

According to a recent report by the NGO Conflict Monitoring Centre, Punjab has witnessed a 90% decline in suicide attacks since 2010.

Fifty-five suicide attacks have taken place in the province over the last nine years.
