Police officials in Lahore have successfully arrested a suspect involved in the issuance of potentially hundreds of fake degrees in Pakistan.

The accused, Riaz was picked up by police on Tuesday from his 'work place' in Sakina bridge where a search uncovered a huge quantity of fake degrees, university stamps and a printing press.

On initial questioning, Riaz admitted that he had been selling fake degrees for the last two years and has issued degrees to hundreds of clients. He also kept a register which contained the names of many of his clients. So far no parliamentarians names have been uncovered from that list.

The vast majority of Riaz's fake degrees were issued under the name of Punjab University and the Lahore Board. The suspect claimed to have been in league with some members of both institutions who would refer clients to him for a monetary share in the scam. Further arrests are expected as investigations continue.

Bilal | 13 years ago | Reply For Police, its so simple to show the names of Officials of both Institutes, but as expectedlyb with their previous record, they hid their names bcoz they are big Fishes… Riaz is a small fish only, why didn’t they arrest the main culprits? without their assistance he couldn’t even bring blank Degree or Certificate out… So, this event shows some skepticism… i do hope it would not be resolved like other cases happend in past.
