The Proteas have not won a home series since 2008

DURBAN: South Africa captain Graeme Smith is aiming to start the new year on a winning note ahead of the third Test against Sri Lanka. The Proteas have not won a home series since 2008 and Smith is looking for his players to bounce back strongly from their 208-run defeat in the second Test to clinch the decider. “The series is on the line so we’re not short on motivation,” said Smith. The team is set to face stiff competition in the form of New Zealand and England later in the year, and Smith is eager for South Africa to turn their fortunes around. “This has been a tough year for the Proteas,” said Smith. “Hopefully 2012 will be a good one for us with the contests that lie ahead.”
