Sanitation worker ends life over delayed wage payment

BAHAWALPUR: An exasperated sanitation worker, who had not been paid his salary for two months, has committed suicide in Bahawalpur.

Rauf Masih, an employee of the Bahawalpur’s Town Municipal Authority, had reportedly refused to pay a bribe to the authority’s sanitation inspectors who retaliated by withholding his salary.

TMA’s sanitation staff, who observed a complete strike in Bahawalpur on Thursday, said the inspectors responsible were Malik Riaz and Nazir Masih.

The workers demanded a thorough probe into the incident and said that they will continue their strike until an inquiry is completed and action is taken against those responsible.

@CK: @MALIK WAQAR HAIDER AWAN: God is always present. He allows the good to suffer so he can condemn the wicked. He will bless the pure in heart in the end.

I'd imagine the ones who would willingly throw their lives away with nothing to show for it would be the ones who can face risks better than anyone. What's the worse they could do? Kill you when you were going to kill yourself anyways? At least go down trying. Though the concept is directed at humans as a whole rather than a single person/incident in Pakistan.
