Not at all. This Mr Clean is the one who is going to set up an entirely new cabinet with his huddling hordes of Reformed Crusaders turned Retro-fit Carpenters. In the bulging mixed bag of assorted goodies that Santa is bringing for the Beloved, Blighted Nation, we have a heady mix of musky aromatic top notes underscored by the tangy tones of the tainted. We have two former foreign ministers, one who served under a dictator fond of wearing many hats yet fearful of doffing his uniform, the other consumed with a sudden realisation that he had served for a good two years with a regime he now considers to be a front runner for the Best Performer at the Global Disaster Awards. For these two gentlemen, may I have the temerity to suggest that the following portfolios be considered: Mr Khurshid Kasuri as Minister of Sartorial Elegance with additional charge of Department (Undevolved) of Cravats and Kerchiefs. Mr Shah Mahmood Qureshi can be allotted the Ministry of Peeri Mureedi while also serving as the Task Force Head of Late Realisation.
For Mr Azam Swati, may I suggest the Ministry of Deforestation, while Mr Aleem Khan can be appointed the head of the Ministry of Corner Plot Allotments.
For Mr Jehangir Tareen a suitable ministry would be one dealing with anything saccharine and sugary, including the sweet taste of sources of wealth accumulated through magical means. Dr Shireen Mazari would be suited for the Ministry of Defiance with the additional charge of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Hair Styling (Trends and Transplants). The Leghari Brothers could be given the charge, jointly, of Ministry for Renditions in honour of Aimal Kansi, while one of them could look after the lucrative trade in Land Cruisers and Land Heists. To Sardar Asseff Ahmed Ali would go the Commission on Irrelevance and other Inconsequential Innuendos, while he would also be appointed the Chairman of the Afternoon Garden Party where all former Oxbridgers would row row row their boats, gently down the nullah. Muffins, Crumpets, and Cucumber Sandwiches shall be served to those who have hitherto thought of cucumbers as a salad vegetable complementing other insipid legumes normally served up with Kukar Palao. Amongst these is the dynamic Sarwar Khan, who could be the competent and experienced head of the Ministry of Opportunistic Yo-yo-ism, while Mian Azhar could serve as Chief Protocol Officer since there isn’t much to say about him which is either here, there, or anywhere in particular.
And last but certainly not least, the Sona Munda of Days of Yore, Mr Shafqat ‘Shaf’ Mahmood, could oversee the Babes and Babus Support Programme with some of the money allegedly being allocated for the renovation of the presidency’s kitchen. In fact, this princely sum of Rs260 million, which would be otherwise used to fashion Italian cabinets in an American kitchen set in a Spanish villa overlooking an Italian Mansion, could be used jointly by Dr Shireen Mazari and Mr Shafqat Mahmood to give the much-anticipated cabinet a makeover, complete with facelifts, chin-tucks, belly nips, transplants and implants, for the grand Change which shall be effected shortly by the Luminous Brigade. With money left over, (plus money from the lucrative trade in Land Cruisers and payments due to sugarcane growers as well as what few pennies could be garnered from the sale of Mr Aleem Khan’s erstwhile scooter), the new kitchen cabinet could have Retro-Fit Carpenters from the Isotopic Selection Institute design a whole new set of cooking ranges where freeze dried meat could be cooked without thawing or checking for bacteria.
Failing this, the Anticipated Cabinet could decide to allocate the money for the presidency’s Kitchen Cabinets to the Children’s Hospital, where 2,500 outpatients and 1,400 inpatients from all over the Beloved, Blighted country seek medical care everyday, for a total cost of 200 million rupees a year, 60 million less than what it takes to build new kitchen cabinets.

The reason Pakistan and other Muslim countries are in such a bad situation, because the defender of status quo never got bashing. That,s why they were always bashing the voices against the status quo and those elite class Mafia, to make life easy for their master. But now the time is change, they will not get succeed what they are trying to do, they will always get bashing and punching . Long Live PTI.
@SaudiRules:
How about 'Pakistan Tehreek-e-Iqtidaar' for PTI?
me not at all impressed.....i still beleive IK is the only hope for pakistan.......
After Reading every part of it, my humble question would be! Whats the point?
well done. PTI is not above criticism in any means. imran supporters ought to expand their mindsets.
pathetic column to say the least.... dont u have anything constructive to write about? Why dont you give us your thoughts on the current government or the main opposition party?
You are a very nice writer. I am impressed.
But I tend to disagree with what you wrote about PTI.................
@antanu g: I don't believe that this is about maintaining status quo. It is all about highlighting the fact that we may end up going from the frying pan into the fire. PTI lacks strong leadership and is attracting politicians who are tainted and have failed within their own parties. PTI without a clear manifesto, action plans and fresh untainted faces will do nothing to solve our problems.
Great article. Unfortunately reality is that without a charismatic leadership and a strong manifesto that motivates the masses, political parties need support from the legacy lot. Most of these politicians are tainted but their support is still needed by parties like PTI to have any sort of showing in the polls. Fresh faces with no family/tribal/political connections or wealth will not stand a chance of winning their seats. One way out of this morass is to switch to the presidential form of government. Though far from perfect, this system will at least allow the common man to elect an individual as head of state.
not impressive.
why this cynicism? obviously the writer wants pakistan to maintain its status quo....or what would be left there to write about for the people like her?
sad to read all this..very biased u are ma'm....well i think its pretty clear to atleast the sensible lot what the present govt is capable of..Mr Zardari claiming to have achieved 80 percent of the manifesto of PPP.with all due respect i think ma'm fayal should have checked that before giving her precious time to write this..honestly anyone tell me 80 percent of manifesto has been achieved and delivered?that is what Mr Zardari said..does anyone see that achievement?honest question..as far as PTI is concerned Mr Imran Khan has support and those ppl are def nt dumb...nor are they are party lovers who are faithful to the parties no matter what..these are ppl who made an open choice and showed their support.and if they keep suporting Inshallah we will see a change...
Now that you got it out of your system, any other ideas? Are you part of the solve or the problem?
@ A Shahid
It seems Pakistan’s liberals are chafed at the prospect of an honest and scrupulous man taking charge for the first time in history.
There was this man. His name was Jinnah. He gave you your country. Need I say more?
sir imran khan zindabad.
It is easy to criticize than make something happen... Why dont you come forward...and bring something better than him...thumbs up to Khan Sahib...
My request to you please first look, not look, but with bird-eye-view on the deliverables of the Great IMRAN KHAN. Whole Pakistani wants change.
A very well-written satirical piece on some of the dangers lurking ahead - if Imran Khan & Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf were elected & take power in Pakistan. While some may criticise Feryal for being too critical, irreverent haste & unwarranted skepticism, people still have the right to know what will be PTI's future course of action & how it will be different from other parties as most of its current front-line "leaders" have been already there in similar positions! It is high time that long-time supporters of PTI ask for the rationale from Imran Khan about this "strategic shift" & demand actively to remove the sign perched on their party's HQ which currently welcomes all "Political Turncoats Invited",
I dont know where you were trying to go with this, but you lost track somewhere between the second and third paragraph. Probably because you had to go back and forth your thesaurus to come up with intelligent words for the new ministries. You need to try your hand at fiction like Harry Potter, but how would that prove cynicism. Try to offer solutions instead of finding problems in solutions.
And for the PTI-bashers, I have to say that some people support PTI because they want to be the cool kids bringing the change, and then there is you who hate on PTI just because they want to be cool kids in the future sayin "..i told you."
Dont write off Pakistan as a failed state. Try to bring change. Hope that soneone will bring change. Give peace a chance.
Dear Feryal, Good to write witty articles/blogs But Do YOU SERIOUSLY WANT us to vote for the two well established political parties ?? You must be joking.
Well-written piece on the dangers lurking ahead. Feryal has ably deconstructed the "line-up" which may rule the roost in not too-distant future. It is high time that long-time supporters/workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaaf step forward & persuade Imran Khan to not allow this party to become all Political Turncoats Invited!
Hahahhaha....nice one Faryal. But you forgot to mention any cabinet position for Javed Hashmi and Abrarul Haq. What about old PTI members like Hamid Khan and Sarfraz Cheema as well. Dont they count?
Oh or maybe writing something about the current cabinet?
@Salim Baig if not them who will be in the cabinet???
The author's point is very well taken. It depends on what IK's objective was when he entered politics: to bring about political change or to make himself the PM? If the former, the cause has already been lost; if the latter, the prospects are good. And please don't give me the ridiculous line that one has to be in power to bring about change; we all know better.
You have said it all Feryal! very hard hitting and also funny.
Excellent piece, though author forget to mention that there are three (not two) former foreign ministers in the "dream-team". (as I remember Sardar Asif Ali Ahmed also had a brief stint at the helm of the FO during 1990s). However, the "dream-team" will do well to recall, what the egoistic captain did to the likes of Wasim Raja, Miandad and some aspiring pacemen, who were perceived as challenge to "Mr. clean's" lofty ego and popularity (both on and off the field)! May God protect the country from these dictators in civies.
@Saim Baig: lolzzzzz and how told you they will not be in cabinet?
@Imran Mohammad:
mirror is so bad it tells all the truth
@SaudiRules: you nailed it brother
WOW, WOW, WOW ! ! !
Damn Good ! Haven't read something like this for a long time !
God Bless you Feryal !
Feryal: Wow, you come across as a very, very bitter cynic.
every one has right to criticize but that should not turn into biasness ..... the article is biased rather than a constructive criticism ..thats it still our support for imran sir
This is called "satire", many bloggers and columnists need to learn from Faryal. Although I pray for Mr. Clean's success, still i enjoyed the article and it did raise a point or two to ponder.
Hard Hitting! Biting! Rip Roaring! Funny!
As the Mask would say " SHMOKKKKKINNNNG"!
Loved it.
Superb!! Eloquently written. Maza aagaya Janab!!
My choice of foreign minister is Ms Feryal Ali Gauhar.
masterpiece Ms!
I couldnt even bare reading ths article cause it sows how biased and negative it is towards Imran khan dont know what these so card intelecuals want ? cant they see what these current parties have done in last 3 decades for thsi country ? no matter what they say against PTI and imran khan all we know is hes better then anyone else simple so please stop misleading people ....
Really an awesome article, i really like the way it's written by Feryal Madam.
Ms Gauhar,
I am not a supporter of many of Imran Khan's views. I have watched with horror at the induction of these so called electables to the party cadre. But the fact is we have run out of time and choices. Pakistanis have given two chances each to both PPP and PML-N and they have both disappointed. As the saying goes fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. Let's give IK one chance and then be the critics if he fails to deliver.
and here we go again with the PTI supporters taking shots at the writer instead of countering it. It's a little toned down in harshness but still going strong.
Azam Swati, who joined PTI on 18th Dec, said on 20th that Sardar Asif is corrupt, and Sardari Asif joined PTI on 25th
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEgTVd1zjGQ&feature=youtu.be
I must remind the readers, and emphasize, that Farayal is no ordinary writer, just one of the so many pen-pushers.She has a unique style with an unmatched command of language. She has the sensitivity of a poet for colours, sounds, seasons, fauna and flora.Above all she has been an active and effective actor in the corridors of power at home and abroad. She appears to have some apprehensions about Imran and PTI,other than not-so-good politicians joining the PTI.( Apparently she is not satisfied with the rationale offered by Imran for acceptance of the unacceptable). But even as a long-time admirer of Faryal I sincerely think that, for once, she should have toned down her passion for style ,colours, seasons, sounds, fauna and flora and informed the readers what options Imran Khan has.I am confident she must be disgusted with the current state of the nation.Madam, show us the direction where we should look
Two questions, one answer.
Q. Who told you all these people will be in the cabinet?? Q. What about the current cabinet madam?
A. All this was on the cards after Karachi jalsa!!!
Sarcasm peppered with realism. Bravo. PTI's Establishment sponsored aura will unravel soon.
Brilliantly scribbled.....a mirror image of future.
When the article started I was literally lost in the web of twisting words and then later I was getting the impression that this would turn into a true PTI-basher but truthfully this is neither. It is just a brilliantly worded satire by a writer who is in too good a mood to be worried about being political. A brilliant piece albeit in a purely literary manner. I hope we will see more articles like this in the future.
@Imran Mohammad: That should be ECNS. NOT ECN :p
FG, nice Op Ed. I like your sense of humor but I am sure some people would find it offensive as it has a degree of truth to it. We have seen it again and again before. When Mush came to power he was "great". However, with the PML-Q and King's Party he sold country's soul. Then we saw the demand "if only CJ is restored all problems would solved". Now IK is at it again with the same tried and tested/rejected clansmen. How can one man bring prosperity and peace with the limited budget, a huge army and the same old politicians?
People are spending more time in collection of old dictionary words to put in article rather then spending some time to do research to put in critical analysis or to make a good quality critique. This article is the best example to demonstrate this. Full of fancy words like innuendos etc although that fit more for this article. Instead of bring corruption cases with reference if they exists, author only criticize PTI personals on their personal appearances, too bad.
What is the logic of this exercise Ms. Faryal? May b u shud hv asked IK how they vl perform in directly put questions!!!
stop crying insaaf tigers and act like real tigers well done ma'am...always been a huge fan pti boys and girls pls learn to take criticism and be thankful tjat your leader is being discussed everywhere, even at GHQ
Sarcasm at its worst ...
This article is so full of venom, without any visible reason
Excellent article! @Imran Mohammad an hour ago Reply I am coining a new term for these kind of writings and thought process: ECN ( Elite-Cyncial-Nay-sayers).
I am coining a new term for PTI = Pakistani Taleban Inquilab. Better yet, I am changing the name of PTI to PULP: Pakistani United Lotas Party.
Awesome, lets be cynical about the best option. That way, we will definitely deserve better. I mean, after all, we have proven ourselves to be the most deserving nation on earth. How dare we get less than perfection when we have done everything to bring up the best leadership, right?
Haha it has Already started. Why can't you PTI supporters show some tolerance? have a Heart guys!
PTI Bashing, favorite topic of pseudo intellectuals!!!
@zia: haha, you mean militant training?
Excellent analysis. Really adore the way you put all of it togather :) keep up the good work. Sada and simple awam keep on dancing on old tunes written by establishemt but sung by new singers.
The really appealing thing about Ms. Gauhar is not only her stylishness but her unmatched moral courage and ability to communicate the whole truth with just a few choice words. All the power to you.
good but biased if you don't say anything about current Govt. n Pml n
I am coining a new term for these kind of writings and thought process:
ECN ( Elite-Cyncial-Nay-sayers).
GET READY for BASHING by PTI supporters. All good things you did in life will be forgotten today coz you have dared to criticize the ULTIMATE champion the Revolutionist THE IMRAN KHAN!
It seems Pakistan's liberals are chafed at the prospect of an honest and scrupulous man taking charge for the first time in history. Somehow they have to bring him down to their level in order to feel some self-worth. How dare he claim to be outside the Kleptocracy we have nourished in this country!!!!
Alot of this is ad hominum attacks and name calling. Its In very poor taste.... Attack them on their provable corruption or their track record, but snipes on personal appearance are just pathetic.Gillani I admit is a well dressed fellow that does qualify him for a vote Right?....
The effort you have put into criticizing this metaphorical kitchen cabinet might have been well spent in putting out alternatives at the least and positive recommendations at best. Good read, but I wish it was more constructive.
Another "Int-el-lectual"????
Its so sade to se people like you make life easy for likes of Zardari and Nawaz Sharif. If you think they are better then Imran khan or PPP and PMLN is better then PTI so i fell sorry for you.
Grass Root politics and Change can never be seen with these refurbished Crusaders. MQM much better than PTI for grooming unknown common face to a well trained and well known Politician.
Anyone wishing Change from PTI better join MQM.
Love your writing style its attention grabbing. You could be Minister for Drama and Deception in the cabinet.
With due respect, what exactly are you doing to make life of ordinary pakistani's like me any better off? Atleast PTI led by Imran Khan and Javed Hashmi offer me hope for a better future.
Every sentence dipped in cynicism. Life is so easy that way.
Faryal, You sound like babbling. What is your point, what do you want? May be you should spend that much writing about current cabinet and their performance, that may be of some use. He has not been in power and no cabinet has been commissioned yet, what this fuss is all about?
