PIA pilots adopt 'Go-Slow' policy

KARACHI: PIA pilots have refused to operate flights, which has affected the flight schedule and causing problems for passengers.

According to sources, the pilots are delaying the flights for several hours under the Go-Slow policy.

Spokesman for PIA, Syed Sultan Hassan, told Express News that the demands of the pilots had been met earlier, but they have come up with new demands.

He said that most of the demands are illegal.

Pakistan Airlines Pilots' Association demanded that the management immediately stop an investigation against some of its pilots.

The president of the association refused to talk to Express News.

Syed Wamiq Haider | 14 years ago | Reply I am a sheer victim to this Go Slow Policy. I've my flight delayed for 7hrs and still counting. Pilots should adopt a professional way if they have to protest but Go Slow is troubling hell alot of passengers when provided waiting arrangements are quite hasty. Shame on US that we can't even take a stand.

fahad | 14 years ago | Reply we should check both sides, normally such conditions arise due to lack of communication between organization and people serving for organization. There must be a neutral body who should check and resolve such kind of issues.

Ali choudhry | 14 years ago | Reply we are flying today on PIA from Dubai to Islamabad, may God bless us & all other passengers. may be pilots change there mind & land our flight in Bombay & ask us " WE ARE ON GO SLOW POLICY, ALL OF YOU GO TO HELL & GO BY BUS TO ISLAMABAD" like they just done this morning with the flight from Sharjha to Sailkot. shame on you PIA Pilots.

Akhtar | 14 years ago | Reply A stewart misbehaving and manhandling with the captain of the aircraft and managment not taking any action against the stewart just because he is politically strong and the captain given show cause that why have you not been able to handle the situation. Since last six months the case is pending and the captain is not flying and the stewart is still flying. Is this the respect a captain gets after 25 years of service in front of a stewart. What should be the stance of pilots except to fly as per the rules given in the book (Go Slow) and not to extend any favours to the organisation. i think when you corner the cat it is not left with options.

Syed A. Mateen | 14 years ago | Reply This is not the first time that PIA pilots have adopted a go-slow policy. There are number of precedents in the past that PIA pilots blackmailed the Corporation to meet their demands. PIA is already suffering losses and to save the sinking aircrafts it has now become necessary to introduce reforms in the National Carrier. Ther are number of pilots who in the past served PIA and now they are serving other international carriers. The attitude of those pilots who left PIA is quite different from those who are still serving PIA. PIA should recruit more pilots so that "old hawks" should not become pain in the neck for the passengers. The pilots do not know how urgent it is for the passengers to reach at their respective destinations. PIA pilots should understand that they are not selling the produts but they are selling the services. If PIA will be unable to give timely service to its passengers, then it will be better to lease PIA aircrafts to other foreign carrier and employ foreign pilots on contract basis.
