Speaking to the media in Karachi, Hussain said that the authorities were still deliberating over the matter and that the CNG stations might have to undergo a closure for a month.
The petroleum minister said that currently their motive was to strategise in order to conserve gas reserves.
He pointed out at population growth and increasing dearth of gas resources in the province and throughout the country.
“The country is undergoing a severe shortage of natural gas,” said Hussain. He added that gas supply for industries is not yet decided, however, if the reserves are not able to meet the demand then this step might also be taken.
At least 70% of the country’s transport now depends completely on CNG, including buses and rickshaws.

another failure of ppp. when we will be proactive.
@a Pakistani:
Sindh is also fertile land, which produces sufficient crops for her people. It is not the case of patriotism, but it's pure statistics and the question of "RIGHTS". One cant allow exploitation in the name of any cosmetic slogan. I repeat, no one has right to plunder the natural resources of any province including Punjab. I think patriotism demands that we all should condemn the exploitation of resources of any province, this will send a positive signal.
@Khurram the Muhajir:
Is this a nationhood to exploit other's resources my dear brother? Today,why Baluchistan is crying?Tomorrow ,it'd be Sindh. History is full of exploitation of natural resources. There is 18th amendment, there are constitutional guarantees to smaller provinces, that must be respected. It is nothing against any other province. Hydro power from KP or Punjab's crop sale is not given free of cost to Sindh. Secondly Power generation is NOT natural resource. Sindh has enough coal to generate electricity for centuries. I simply state that please respect the 18th amendment and no body should exploit natural resources of any province.Since we have enough gas reserves, it's our first right to make use of them, which is universal principle.
@Sindhvoice
Going by that logic Hydropower produced in Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab should first be used in Punjab and Pakhtunkhwa ans then any left over diverted to Sindh.
This is not nationhood my friend. When you are one nation you share all shortages and surpluses!
@a Pakistani:
You sir, win an internet.
Ever wondered who benefits if Pakistan imports more petrol? Why all of a sudden the government is trying to manage CNG sector which consumes only 7% of gas? How come Pakistan has so many shortages of planes, railway, electricity and now gas?
@Hameed: Baluchistan and Sindh produces around 90% gas.Let see what statistics say. National Gas Production is: 1,400,026 (Million CFT) and Sindh's share is 982,035 MCFT (~70% of total Production). In oil, National oil production is 23.93 Million barrels and SIndh's share is 56 to 60 %. Reference is from Pakistan Enegry Year Book 2006.
The point is, it's universal principal that first right over resources is of indigenous people , the people of land. I shared you the reference from Pakistan Energy book, you can see how much a Sindh province contribute to national production. We provide big chunk in national GDP. However we have complete right over natural resources. When we have surplus gas available in our province, does it make any sense to do load shedding. After 18th amendment, smaller provinces have been given constitutional guarantees. And No one has right to exploit our resources and loot it for their own advantages.
@Sindhvoice, guess the same works for Balochistan too then. First pay them their due share of revenue then talk about provincial rights for Sindh
@Sindhvoice: Dear you missed the last news, the govt is also mulling CNG shutdown for 2months in Punjab.
Sindh produces 66 to 70% Gas, and people of Sindh has first right to over their natural resources. The exploitation of our resources to keep other provinces happy with government is not good omen. The gas load-shedding should be exercised in the provinces where they do not have enough gas, why Sindh?
Pls stop this discrimination and loot!
Stand up people or bye a Donkey to ride u to ur work everyday.
Bravo Mr. loan, May this step wake this nation up.
First the CNG users were encouraged to use CNG to reduce the pollution created after using Diesel and Petrol.
Now the sitting government is closing CNG Stations to again create pollution in the country.
This is a very rare example how the sitting government is functioning.
A proof of good governance. What a government and its efficiency.
CNG use for private vehicles should be shut down. The government should focus on providing CNG to industries such as Textile, Fertilizer and Public Sector Transport Companies.
Ad-hoc policy making does not deserve ad-hoc solutions.
