Aqeel, Yasir into singles, doubles semis

Top seeds cruise in Karachi’s international tennis event.

KARACHI: Aqeel Khan and younger brother Yasir cruised into the semi-finals of the UBL International Hardcourt Tennis Championship being held at the Karachi Gymkhana with 6-1, 6-0 wins over Heera Ashiq and Hamidul Haq respectively.

Third-seed Muhammad Abid Mushtaq faces second-seed Yasir in the last-four after beating Khurram Nazir 6-1, 6-1. Sri Lanka’s Thangarjah Dineshkant defeated Imran Shaukat 6-2, 6-4 to book a clash with Aqeel. Yasir and Aqeel teamed up to beat Shaukat and Kamran Khalil 6-2, 6-2 in the men’s doubles quarter-final. They play Mushtaq and Usman Rafiq today.

Syed Nofil Kaleem will take on Dawar Rehan in the boy’s under-18 singles final. In the women’s singles event, Maheen Dada defeated Hajra Nadeem 6-0, 6-0, while Sri Lanka’s Hasindi Lokugi beat Sarah Ahmed 6-1, 6-2.
