Orakzai agency: 18 militants killed in fresh clashes

22 security personnel injured when militants attacked them in Kago Qumar area.

PESHAWAR: In fresh clashes with the Taliban in the Orakzai tribal region, security forces claim to have killed 18 insurgents on Wednesday.

The fighting in the Kago Qumar area of upper Orakzai agency also left at least 22 security personnel, including a major, injured. According to officials, military helicopter gunships bombed militant hideouts following an early morning attack from the insurgents.

The air blitz killed 18 militants and destroyed their five hideouts. The injured security personnel were airlifted to the Combined Military Hospitals Kalaya and Kohat. Security forces launched a search operation in Arghang, Zakhtoon and Gundidaal after the clash. On Friday, 21 militants were killed in two separate incidents of violence in Orakzai.
