Gibran Peshimam, News Editor – The Express Tribune, says that Sharif’s Karachi visit has little political significance as he has focused more on meeting business leaders. He says the business community plays a major role in financing election campaigns and activating the labour force in their Punjab based factories, and this is what Sharif is looking to do.
He says Sharif might feel that elections might happen sooner than possible, giving the impression that he knows something others do not.
Peshimam says Sharif's trip is not correlated with the planned Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) rally in Karachi on December 25, 2011. He says while the PML-N will have no electoral significance in Karachi, PTI may be able to pick some seats in Pakhtun dominated areas of the city.

typical anti pakistan analysis, by liberals who cant see past ethnicity
Nawaz sharif is the only hope for Pakistan in present circumastances.
@realist You are referring about public accounts committee. But it has not recovered 130 Billion.Rather ,the amount is around 30 Billion. On the other hand, N-league allowed the central government to do mega scandals like NICL, Railway,Wapda,PTCL,PIA,Haj,Nato-containers etc. and this ways billions of rupees have been plundered. So what's the net gain that N-league did for national exchequer? Meanwhile, N-league did not raise strong voice against all the corruptions in the name of saving democracy. They have only speeded up after Imran Khan Jalsa of 30th October. Finally, N-league has been master of Punjab over the last 4 years with the help of 40 MPAs of Q-league.What significantly better things have N-league done in Punjab? I would appreciate if you could give answer to all my questions.
@Super Pak: Google it mate. how much Public Accounts committee recovered in this parliament. Along with how much recovered through rental power case, filed by this same opposition. Punjab bank scam , SC strike down NRO on the petition of this same Opposition! those martial law administrators made it to 7% by messing the economy by keeping their focus on Service sector. car financing , real estate , Stock exchange & Above All the super gift of CNG. Thanks to that martial law administrator our factories 7 industrial sector remains closed 3.5 days a week! PS : am NOT defending economic policies of this government either , this government is immature to take bold economic decisions , the only good thing this govt was about to do was shot down by its own coalition partners (tax reforms) Pakistani economy needs tax reforms!
Mian sahab, dont forget your helmit
Mohammad Ali Siddiqui, I didn't understand your logic as Dehli-Panjabi Saudagaran are not Panjabi speaking, they speak Urdu. Their connection with Panjab is hundreds of years old.
@Realist. You right, first of all he can sense no massive support for him their and secondly he doesn't want to leave his supporters on the Rehm O Karam of MQM. you know what they can do when they feel threatened politically.
Before I comment I must clarify that I do not have an link with any party as my party is PAKISTAN. Unfortunate that the media/writers in our country have their bias's. Especially Express Tribune has a substantial tilt towards PTI. To evidence my point atleast the writer should have mentioned the Balochistan issue which was raised by PMLN, again the anti establishment rhetoric and the joining of Irfan Marwat who I think does have a say in the Karachi political scene. Further, our media also has its pro mummy daddy tilt (i am also part of same social segment). This is evident that a day or two ago the religious parties had a massive show in Peshawar,Rawalpindi and Lahore but to be fair see the way the time/space which was given to them as to the other parties. I know that there will be many comment to my writeup or may be non. But I am sure that if there are any most of them will be mud slinging rather than constructive feedback and if non well we do not want to think just state over our heads.
the way he is moves in Karachi, it reminds us Royal time. King Sharif-1 is on tour.
& on topic. I agree he doesn't seem comfortable while campaigning in Karachi! may be thats because he knows he won't be able to get anything (electoral) out of Karachi!
@buttjee: This useless Opposition has recovered more than 130 billion rupees, an UNPRECEDENTED act. Which even those Martial law administrators who came in with the slogan of wiping out corruption couldn't do. But of'course Pakistanis aren't used to of issue based politics , they want dama dam mast qalander all the time. they want to throw every government out in 2 years span!
During his Karachi visit Mian Sahib indicated to the media that after coming into power he would not like to go back to those palaces in Islamabad from where he was evicted in 1999. I do not think Mian Sahib has to worry about such an eventuality. Poor fellow should know that the kind of useless opposition he had provided to the country during the last four years, he is not going to be voted back to power.
