Enough is enough: SHC asked to help ban rallies

UHRCP has asked SHC to intervene so that rallies and public meetings by political parties are banned on national days

Express December 20, 2011

KARACHI: An NGO, the United Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (UHRCP), has asked the Sindh High Court to intervene so that rallies and public meetings by political parties are banned on national days, including December 25 (the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam), March 23  (Pakistan Day) and on the main thoroughfares of the city. Filing the petition, Rana Faiz-ul-Hasan and Imran Shehzad of the UHRCP, maintained that millions of people living in Karachi face long hours of traffic jams and a disruption in law and order because of rallies or public gatherings at places such as Mereweather Tower, Regal Chowk and MA Jinnah Road.
