Leapfrogging: SC wants record of out-of-turn police promotions

KARACHI:

A division bench of the Supreme Court summoned on Monday the entire record of promotions in the police department, allegedly made out of turn.

Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Justice Amir Hani Muslim were hearing a complaint filed by Sub-Inspector Aslam Pervez Bhutta who maintained that he was denied a promotion while three of his colleagues were promoted to the next rank.

Bhutta told the court that even though he was part of a team that helped rescue a boy abducted in Preedy police limits a couple of years back, three others were promoted and he was only given a cash prize. The bench issued notices for December 22.
