KARACHI: Pakistan Army continued their dominance at the National Men’s Rowing Championship, clinching the event with 13 gold medals.

Army, who were also hosting the championship, displayed their fine form at the in-door events that took place yesterday, bagging five gold medals in the seniors category and two in the under-18 event.

Pakistan Navy ended the championship in second place, having bagged three gold medals, whereas HEC secured two silver medals. Wapda were able to win a silver and a bronze in in-door events. The championship featured 10 teams competing in various categories in both water and in-door events.

The Pakistan Rowing Federation Secretary Rizwanul Haq believed that the event had brought to the fore several talented rowers, who could help Pakistan qualify for the Olympics next year.

“Our chances of qualifying for the Olympics have brightened,” Haq told The Express Tribune. “The Asian qualifiers for the Olympics will take place in April. Several new rowers have come into the limelight, who may be selected.”
